About Beth, your expert Italy Travel Advisor
Why I became an Italian Travel Advisor
Italian Citizenship and Fluency
I received my Italian citizenship in October 2024. I’m working on my Italian fluency and at this point, I’m a B1 level Italian language student. Learning Italian significantly increases my chances of fulfilling my dream to live part-time in Italy. I delight in exploring new cultures, tastes, and sounds. My picture-perfect day involves an outdoor café in a new town, savoring delicious food and wine while immersing myself in the captivating rhythm of life.

Aperitivo at Salumeria Simoni Laboratorio in Bologna, Italy.
This great bar on one of the tiny, busy side streets of Bologna is the perfect place for an aperitivo! This spot is a true celebration of Emilia‑Romagna’s culinary heritage. Nestled in the historic Quadrilatero on Via Drapperie, this charming, family-run salumeria has been delighting locals and travelers since 1960. During the aperitivo hour, the shop transforms—high stools line the window and outdoor seating appears, inviting you to linger over exquisite platters of thinly sliced mortadella, prosciutto, culatello, Parmigiano-Reggiano, squaquerone, olives, and freshly baked bread. We enjoyed a few tigelle sandwiches with a light and bubbly Lambrusco. Lambrusco is an red wine, famous in the Emilia-Romagna, that is served chilled and has a lite effervescence. It’s perfect for a sunny summer afternoon!

Dinner at the Hotel California, Positano, Italy.
This family run hotel, owned by the Cinque family is a perfect spot to explore Positano and the Amalfi coast. The family greets each guest warmly which is what had my parents coming back year after year. They travelled to this hotel every year for over 20 years, only being interrupted by the 2020 pandemic. What did they love best about it? The hotel’s setting, perched on a terraced cliffside above Positano’s iconic pastel-hued village. Hotel California Also, you may recognize the exterior from the 2002 Diane Lane classic movie “Under the Tuscan Sun” – Frances spends the night with Marcello at this charming hotel.
My Passion for Travel
I have a passion for travel that broadens the mind and heart. I believe it provides a deeper understanding of the human experience. Whether I’m exploring new places or revisiting old ones, I seek out new neighborhoods and experiences. Additionally I value learning from locals and find that to be the best way to immerse myself in a destination. This curiosity fuels my appreciation for cultural immersion and human connection, enriching my travel experiences and fostering empathy across cultures.
Italian Language Schools
One way I like to become a part of a city is by enrolling in a local language school for foreigners. I love taking Italian classes in Italy because it allows me to fully immerse myself in the language and culture at the same time. Every lesson connects directly to my daily experiences — whether I’m ordering coffee, asking for directions, or chatting with locals. Being surrounded by native speakers helps me learn faster and more naturally, and I enjoy picking up the little expressions and gestures that you just don’t get from textbooks. Plus, there’s something deeply rewarding about learning a language in the place where it’s spoken — I also definitely ask for recommendations on places to see, restaurants to try and any other locals insider info! I also love taking cooking classes and participating in wine tastings!

Another selfie during our trip to Buckingham Palace, London, England.
It was a cool day but finally one with no rain. I’ve visited a few times over the years but this was our first “winter” trip and it was cold!
Italy is my favorite place to visit—there’s just something about its blend of history, food, and culture that keeps drawing me back. Whether I’m wandering through quiet hill towns, savoring handmade pasta, or soaking in the warm Mediterranean sun, it always feels like magic. That said, I’ve also enjoyed exploring other parts of Europe, including the vibrant streets of London, the romantic charm of Paris, and the friendly, energetic vibe of Dublin. Each of those cities has its own personality and highlights, but for me, Italy holds a special place in my heart.
