My Citizenship Journey

My Journey to Italian Dual Citizenship

My Italian dual citizenship journey began in November 2022.  I was able to become an Italian citizen through my great-grandfather. He emigrated from Italy to the U.S. in the early 1900s. His Italian citizenship passed down through my family, even though we didn’t know it for years. Once I discovered I was eligible, I decided to apply.

The process started with research. I traced my family line and found the documents that proved my connection. I gathered birth, marriage, and death certificates from both U.S. and Italian sources. I ordered long-form versions, had them translated into Italian, and got them apostilled. It took time and patience.

Some records were missing or had mistakes. I had to dig deeper, file corrections, and stay organized. I read everything I could about the jure sanguinis process. I joined Facebook Groups, read as much as I could on Italian Citizenship, followed other applicants’ stories, and learned by doing.

The paperwork was just one challenge. The biggest was getting a consulate appointment. I kept at it and didn’t give up. Finally, I got a date. I submitted my complete file and held my breath. 129 days later, I received the official recognition—I was now an Italian citizen.

That moment was powerful. It wasn’t just a legal status. It felt like reclaiming a part of myself. I wanted to travel to Italy more often, not just as a visitor, but as someone who belonged. To stayed longer. To explored deeper. To feel at home.

Over time, people started asking for my advice. How did I do it? Where should they go in Italy? How could they start their own citizenship journey? I loved answering those questions.

Becoming a Travel Advisor

That’s when I realized something important: my experience had real value. I decided to turn my knowledge into a service. I became an Italian travel and ancestry consultant. Now I help others reconnect with their roots, understand the citizenship process, and plan meaningful trips to Italy.

This journey changed my life. It brought me closer to my heritage and opened new doors—personally, emotionally, and professionally.

And it all started with one question: *Could I become an Italian citizen?*
